MP Mark Daou stressed “the importance of electing a president of the republic instead of adhering to the policy of obstruction, excess power and dedicating patchwork policy to pressing issues.” Speaking in an interview with ‘Voice of All Lebanon” Channel this morning, Daou underlined his refusal that the caretaker government appoints a central bank governor. He expressed his surprise at the statement issued by the four deputies of the Central Bank Governor, considering that they were ‘asked to do so.’ MP Daou raised questions about the role of the caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, who did not issue any position regarding this issue, while his deputy, Saadeh Al-Shami, took the initiative to respond to the statement of the BDL Governor’s deputies. The lawmaker also called for “liberalizing the exchange rate and moving towards approving the real dollar rate,” pointing out that the “Sayrafa” platform only serves banks and a group of money changers and money transfer companies. In this context, the deputy warned that the economic situation is catastrophic, and the issue of the governance of the Banque du Liban is extremely dangerous. Finally, MP Daou concluded by saying: “We cannot build a state with weapons outside the state that send permanent threats.”
