Environment Ministry Highlights Role of Local Products in Reducing Carbon Footprint, Enhancing Food Security

Riyadh: The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture emphasized the importance of purchasing local products, as they play a central role in achieving environmental and economic sustainability and enhancing food security in the Kingdom, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

According to Saudi Press Agency, this announcement came during the launch of an environmental campaign by the ministry through its Environmental Awareness Initiative account on the X platform. The campaign aims to promote healthy behaviors that support the local economy and raise environmental awareness by encouraging the purchase of national products.

The ministry noted that local products are distinguished by their high quality and suitability for both the environment and consumers. They are subject to strict oversight to ensure compliance with health and environmental standards, contributing to food safety and the preservation of natural resources. It also highlighted that purchasing national products helps reduce the carbon footprint caused by import and transportation processes while supporting local farmers and producers, positively impacting the national economy.

The ministry further urged consumers to adopt healthy practices when shopping by selecting local agricultural products, meats, and dairy, which offer high nutritional value. Purchasing local food also encourages the consumption of seasonal and regional products and helps reduce food waste caused by over-purchasing and the lower quality of imported products. The ministry stressed that this approach contributes to sustainable development and improves production efficiency.
