Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have each received Dr. Mohammad Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), in Addis Ababa.
Prime Minister Ahmed met with Dr. Al-Issa, also the chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, who is heading the MWL delegation to Addis Ababa as the first Islamic delegation to be hosted by the capital of the African Union.
The Ethiopian prime minister welcomed the delegation and discussed efforts to enhance religious, intellectual, and community awareness in the face of extremist thoughts around the world.
The meeting emphasized the important role of religious leaders from all faiths in this regard.
Meanwhile, President Zewde held a meeting with Dr. Al-Issa, hailing the MWL delegation’s visit as important.
She expressed appreciation for MWL’s efforts and global tasks as well as its contribution to enhancing peace and harmony in societies with national diversity and its provision of humanitarian services.
President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council Sheikh Haji Ibrahim and a number of government officials attended both meetings.
