France.. Hundreds Arrested As Protests Continue Over The Killing Of A Teenager By Police Bullets

Protests continued in France until early morning today, Saturday, after the police shot a 17-year-old in the Paris suburb of Nanterre on Tuesday.

BFMTV, quoting Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, said: “At least 341 people were arrested on Friday night.”

Darmanin also announced, via Twitter, that reinforcements would be sent to Marseille, where the mayor said “violence and looting are taking place”.

“In Marseille, scenes of looting and violence are unacceptable. I strongly condemn these acts of violence, and I call on the state to send additional law enforcement forces immediately,” Marseille Mayor Benoit Bayan said on Twitter.

BFMTV quoted the police, without giving details, as saying that an explosion occurred in the old port of Marseille, without causing any injuries.
