GCC Secretary General Meets with EU Commissioner for Crisis Management

Riyadh– Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met here today with Janez Lenarcic, European Union (EU) Commissioner for Crisis Management.

During the meeting, several issues were discussed, including the joint cooperation between the GCC and the EU in the humanitarian field, and emergency and crisis response. The officials also discussed the latest developments related to the earthquake that struck southern Turkiye and northern Syria, and the resulting loss of lives and infrastructure, stressing the importance of solidarity, and humanitarian and international cooperation to face these harsh conditions.

The GCC Secretary General pointed out that the GCC leaders have issued royal directives to allocate financial aid for urgent relief for those affected in Türkiye and Syria, in addition to directing the operation of relief air bridges to deliver humanitarian aid, as well as sending medical and support teams to treat the injured and participate in the search for the missing victims under the rubble, and to organize official and national campaigns for financial and in-kind donations to support the victims of this painful disaster.
