Brussels: Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi expressed appreciation for the European Union's supportive stance towards the GCC states in response to Iranian aggression. He labeled the aggression as a direct threat to regional and international security, highlighting the significance of Gulf security as a cornerstone of global economic stability and underscoring the strategic necessity of the GCC-EU partnership.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this statement was made during a briefing to members of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Chairman David McAllister at the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels. Albudaiwi emphasized the importance of strengthening GCC-EU relations, especially in the face of ongoing challenges. He noted that the meeting occurred during a sensitive period, underscoring the vital role of parliamentary dialogue in fostering cooperation between the two regions.
Albudaiwi praised the European Parliament for its engagement with the GCC region and support for dialogue. He reiterated that the escalation by Iran poses significant threats to both regional and international security and stability, citing attacks on civilian and economic facilities within GCC countries that have resulted in casualties and infrastructure damage. The secretary general called for greater responsibility from the international community and the UN Security Council in maintaining stability and promoting de-escalation.
The consequences of these attacks, as highlighted by Albudaiwi, include humanitarian, environmental, and economic impacts, such as disruptions to education and the suspension of development projects.
