GCC Secretary-General Urges Global Recognition of Palestine, Support for Two-State Solution Alliance

New york city: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi called on all countries to join the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and to recognize the State of Palestine as a prelude to rebuilding trust and establishing genuine peace.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Albudaiwi made his remarks at a high-level ministerial session of the United Nations Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at the UN Headquarters in New York City. The conference was co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. Albudaiwi expressed gratitude to the Saudi leadership for initiating the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, highlighting its strategic vision to refocus the international community on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Albudaiwi acknowledged France's role in co-chairing the conference alongside Saudi Arabia and recognized the efforts of President Emmanuel Macron and United Nations Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres for their commitment to defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Albudaiwi reiterated that the Palestinian cause remains a top priority for the GCC, emphasizing it as a non-negotiable matter of right and justice. He referenced the year 2002 as a pivotal moment when the GCC supported the Arab Peace Initiative, proposed by Saudi Arabia, which outlined a comprehensive vision for a just and lasting peace. The initiative called for an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, which he described as essential for any realistic settlement to restore regional balance and stability.

He commended the countries that have recognized Palestine, describing it as a demonstration of historical responsibility and commitment to international justice. Albudaiwi also condemned Israeli actions in Gaza, rejected settlement policies hindering the two-state solution, and underlined the importance of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). He called for ongoing humanitarian aid, reconstruction efforts, and international accountability.
