Hajj 2023: Intensified Supervision of Slaughterhouses and Livestock Entry in Holy Sites

Mecca: The Holy Capital Municipality is ramping up its oversight of slaughterhouses and livestock entry points at the holy sites during Hajj. This effort is aimed at preventing the random entry and infiltration of livestock into the region through a strategic network of checkpoints distributed across the area.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the slaughterhouses and slaughtering units have commenced receiving pilgrims' requests for sacrificial meat since the first day of Eid al-Adha. This comes amid comprehensive preparations during the days of Tashreeq. The Municipality emphasizes its commitment to ensuring that the ritual is performed in a healthy and organized manner, eliminating potential environmental pollution or diseases caused by random slaughtering. The process of livestock entry into the slaughterhouses is being monitored meticulously under health supervision.

The Secretariat is actively participating in several committees to organize the slaughtering process and utilize the slaughtered animals appropriately. These include the Random Slaughter Committee, the Charity Distribution Committee, the Temporary Slaughterhouses Committee, and the Committee for Utilizing Sacrificial Meat and Udhiyah. Additionally, the Municipality is involved in joint tours of slaughterhouses and livestock monitoring centers, while also taking part in removing illegal pens and kitchens.

Seven support centers have been established by the Secretariat, strategically distributed to cover all regions. These centers include Al-Bay'ah Support Center, Duqm Al-Waber Support Center, Al-Mu'aisam Support Centers A and B, Al-Aziziyah Support Center, Al-Ma'abdah Support Center, and Ajyad Support Center. Each center is equipped with sufficient workers and equipment to ensure comprehensive supervisory duties.

Early preparations by the Holy Capital Municipality included the setup of seven slaughterhouses in the Al-Mu'aisam area, with a capacity exceeding one million heads of livestock. These facilities are equipped with the latest technological devices and machinery, and their cleanliness is supervised by the Kingdom's Project for Utilizing Sacrificial Meat.
