Hajj Pilgrims Benefit from Successful Drone Medicine Delivery System

Makkah: The health system announced the success of the pilot operation to transport medicines between primary healthcare centers and hospitals using drones in the holy sites. This initiative marks a significant advancement aimed at enhancing the efficiency of health services provided to the guests of God during the Hajj season of 1446 AH.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the effective collaboration between the Makkah Health Cluster and the National Unified Procurement Company for Medicines, Equipment and Medical Supplies (NUPCO) played a crucial role in securing the medicine needs for this year's Hajj season through drone technology. The initiative focused on the swift transport of medicines and medical supplies to the holy sites.

The implementation of this service enhances the speed of response, supporting health services during the Hajj season of 1446 AH. Mina Emergency Hospital received deliveries via helicopter, including ice packs intended for treating heat stress and sunstroke, aligning with the preparedness plans for the stoning of the devil on the first day of Eid al-Adha.

The drone transportation service involves multiple stages. Initially, preparation and arrangement are conducted to determine the required quantities and establish contact with healthcare facilities. This is followed by an equipment phase using technologies compliant with the Food and Drug Authority's requirements. Medicines, medical, and laboratory supplies are then reserved, dispensed, and delivered to healthcare facilities. The transportation phase involves setting dates and routes for delivery across various sites. Finally, inventory monitoring takes place via a control screen to ensure smooth operations.

These efforts are part of the health system's commitment to providing an optimal health environment, enabling pilgrims to perform Hajj comfortably and ensuring the provision of healthcare services and medical care, in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 program goals.
