Hayy Jameel Exhibition Celebrates Jeddah’s Maritime Heritage

Jeddah:The exhibition "Time Reflected on Water," hosted at Hayy Jameel, captures the collective memory of Jeddah and its enduring bond with the Red Sea. Featuring varied artworks, the exhibition draws from the movement of merchant vessels, fishing nets, and historical pilgrimage routes, as well as the intercultural exchanges that have shaped the coastal city's unique identity.

According to Saudi Press Agency, this exhibition will run until October 17 and includes works by seven artists from the second edition of the Recess program. These artists use diverse media and techniques to explore the intersection of past and present, and how geographic space influences memory formation.

One of the highlights is a sail-inspired textile installation created using the appliqué technique. This piece reflects shared communal values and documents the artists' creative journey, deeply rooted in Red Sea navigational heritage.

Soundscapes are also utilized by the artists to archive geographic memory. Through specialized sessions, they recorded ambient audio along Jeddah's southern Corniche at sunset, providing an auditory examination of their environment. Field visits to the Red Sea Museum further informed their creative processes and enhanced their connection to the city's maritime past.

The exhibition underscores Art Jameel's dedication to nurturing emerging talent and providing platforms for artistic experimentation. It links contemporary creative expression to the cultural landscape, enriching Jeddah's vibrant arts scene.
