Heritage Commission Registers 1,414 New Archaeological Sites in National Antiquities Register

Riyadh: The Heritage Commission announced the registration of 1,414 new archaeological sites in the National Antiquities Register. This significant addition brings the total number of registered sites across the Kingdom to 12,991, underscoring the extensive scope of national efforts to survey and document archaeological locations within the region.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the registration process is governed by the Antiquities and Urban Heritage Law, which was issued by Royal Decree on 9/1/1436 AH. The Heritage Commission Board has authorized the CEO to register archaeological and heritage sites under this law. This expansion in the register reflects the Kingdom's commitment to preserving its diverse cultural heritage.

The commission emphasized that the registration of these sites ensures they receive regulatory protection. It facilitates the organization of research and excavation activities and supports urban planning initiatives. Furthermore, this move enhances cultural investment opportunities at eligible sites, aligning with national initiatives aimed at showcasing the Kingdom's civilizational assets.
