IMCTC Secretary General Meets with UN Undersecretary General for Counter-Terrorism

New York, Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) Major General Pilot Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi met today at the United Nations headquarters in New York with UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism and Executive Director of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Vladimir Voronkov.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways of cooperation between IMCTC and UNOCT, as well as issues related to combating terrorism in its various forms. Voronkov was briefed on the coalition’s initiatives in intellectual and media fields, combating the financing of terrorism, and the role of IMCTC in coordinating and intensifying international efforts for member states.

Voronkov welcomed Al-Moghedi and noted that cooperation among international organizations helps face terrorist challenges.

Voronkov praised the efforts of the coalition in serving the interests of allied countries in their fight against terrorism and its achievements in coordinating inter
national efforts, stressing the pioneering role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the host country of the IMCTC headquarters, in supporting the coalition since its establishment, out of its belief in the importance of international cooperation in this regard.

Al-Moghedi voiced his appreciation for the efforts made by the United Nations, represented by UNOCT, in supporting, assisting, and training member states in various counter-terrorism fields and building institutional capacities. He stressed the importance of coordinating international efforts, implementing UN Security Council resolutions, and raising awareness about the threats and impacts of terrorism. Al-Moghedi reiterated that combating terrorism requires international efforts and intensified cooperation based on specific strategic visions within an integrative partnership framework to eradicate this phenomenon that has exhausted many countries.

This visit is part of boosting international cooperation with regional and international organizations an
d centers, and out of the coalition’s keenness to establish strategic partnerships among international organizations and enhance existing cooperation to maintain international security and peace.
