Rome: The International Camel Organization (ICO) participated in the closing ceremony of the International Year of Camelids (IYC), organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at its headquarters in Rome. The global event marked the culmination of a year dedicated to highlighting the importance of camelids in enhancing food security, economic development, cultural heritage, and climate resilience across more than 90 countries.
According to Saudi Press Agency, as a full member of the International Year of Camelids' Steering Committee, the ICO has played an active role throughout the year by supporting awareness in the camel sector. ICO Founder and Chairman Fahd bin Falah bin Hathleen emphasized their involvement was rooted in a mission to elevate the camel sector globally. Camels are regarded as a symbol of cultural identity and supporters of rural communities' sustainability and livelihoods. He reiterated their commitment to supporting camels' roles across scientific, cultural, sport, economic, and welfare sectors.
ICO Secretary General Abdulrahman Alieedan noted that the closing ceremony was an opportunity to reflect on a year of achievements and to look ahead. He affirmed their dedication to ensuring the momentum built during the IYC continues through international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and strategic partnerships to strengthen camel-based economies and communities.
