Jeddah Astronomy Society Tracks Ramadan Crescent, Earthlight Phenomenon

Jeddah: As the Ramadan crescent appears on the southwestern horizon this evening, skywatchers have a prime opportunity for astronomical observation and photography.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Head of the Jeddah Astronomy Society Majed Abu Zahra noted that the moon entered its conjunction phase on February 17, marking the start of the new lunar month. Observers may witness the “Earthlight” phenomenon, where sunlight reflecting off Earth faintly illuminates the moon’s dark side.

As the moon moves eastward and its illumination grows nightly, the current dark skies provide an ideal window for studying faint celestial objects without the glare of a full moon.
