Jeddah: The Jeddah Municipality launched yesterday evening the second season of the “Basta Khair 2” initiative, which will continue until the 27th of the holy month of Ramadan. The initiative is part of the municipality’s efforts to support and empower street vendors’ activities, representing a qualitative step that enhances the experience and opens up more stable, sustainable economic opportunities by providing more than 30 stalls.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this initiative, launched by the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, falls within the government’s ongoing efforts to support and empower street vendors and the most vulnerable groups-men and women-across cities of the Kingdom. It targets divorced women, widows, social security beneficiaries, the unemployed, families working in the cottage industry, persons with disabilities who can work, and beneficiaries of charitable societies.
Through “Basta Khair 2,” the municipality seeks to achieve sustainable impact and an organized economy by providing a suitable and regulated work environment, enabling beneficiaries to conduct their activities legally, and enhancing their opportunities for effective participation in community development. This helps stimulate a culture of self-employment and reinforces the concept of social solidarity.
