Joint executive-legislature committee on restructuring subsidy system holds second meeting

The executive and legislative branches today held their second coordination meeting devoted to restructuring the government subsidy system.

First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, MP Abdulnabi Salman, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, and Parliament Affairs Minister, Ghanim bin Fadhl Al-Buainain, chaired the meeting.

The committee stressed that its joint meetings will discuss ways to raise the efficiency of government subsidies by ensuring that they benefit eligible citizens only, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force, as well as the eligibility criteria agreed upon by the two branches.

The panel highlighted the increasing constructive cooperation between the legislative and executive branches in exchanging information and opinions, as well as responding to the inquiries submitted by lawmakers.

The committee affirmed that government subsidies will be discussed in detail to ensure the sustainability of the subsidy system.

The representatives of the two branches discussed the general principles for restructuring of the government subsidy system.

The government’s responses to the questions submitted by the legislative branch were also discussed.
