Makkah: The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture's Makkah region branch launched the 2024 National Greening Season yesterday. This initiative aligns with the broader national afforestation campaign under the Saudi Green Initiative, aiming to promote sustainable environmental development and enhance vegetation cover. According to Saudi Press Agency, on the first day, several afforestation campaigns were implemented across the Makkah region in partnership with government agencies, private sector entities, and environmental associations. Over 300 volunteers planted more than 3,900 seedlings, including various wild and urban plant species that contribute to environmental sustainability and water conservation. These efforts aim to raise agricultural and environmental awareness within the community.
