Mild Fall Weather Encourages Winter Vegetable Planting in Qassim

Accra:Qassim Farmers throughout the Qassim Region have initiated the planting of various winter vegetable crops, taking advantage of the 52-day temperate fall transition that begins on October 16. This period marks the seasonal shift from summer to winter across the Kingdom and the Arabian Peninsula.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the mild conditions and seasonal rainfall during this time create optimal conditions for the cultivation of leafy greens, root vegetables, bulbs, legumes, and brassicas. Crops such as lettuce, arugula, spinach, carrots, radishes, onions, garlic, and legumes thrive in open fields, while tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and eggplants are grown in controlled greenhouses to regulate temperature and enhance water efficiency.

Local farmer Sulaiman Al-Mushaiti emphasized the importance of this fall transition for tasks such as land preparation, seed selection, and irrigation planning. He pointed out that crop diversification is essential for balancing supply throughout the season. By combining greenhouse technology with precise agro-management, farmers can improve yield quality and maintain long-term agricultural sustainability.
