Minister of Foreign Affairs briefs legislative branch on local and international developments

A joint government parliamentary meeting was held Sunday morning, chaired by the Speaker of the Council of Representative, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, attended by First Deputy Chairman of Shura Council, Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, and in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and the Minister of Information, Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi as well as First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives Abdulnabi Salman, Second Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, Dr. Jihad Abdullah Al Fadhel, Second Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, and the chairmen and members of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security Committees at the Shura Council.

The Speaker of the Council of Representative, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam noted the strategic approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the efforts of the Government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in strengthening international cooperation to maintain security and stability, development and prosperity in the region, by promoting the values and principles of peace, tolerance and dialogue, and human rights.

He affirmed parliamentary support for the Comprehensive Agreement for Security Integration and Prosperity between Bahrain and the United States, which was signed by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister and Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America, as part of the official visit of HRH to the United States. He noted the importance of this agreement in enhancing relations between the two countries.

He also praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s delegation to the 78th session of the UNGA, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.

The First Deputy Chairman of Shura Council, Jamal Mohammed Fakhro affirmed that Bahrain’s distinguished diplomatic approach stems from His Majesty the King’s wise approach and vision. He also commended the government’s initiatives and plans, under the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain’s achievements towards the Sustainable Development Goals reflect the keenness to strengthen partnership with countries of the world in advancing global development goals, namely in the fields of food security, environmental protection, climate change challenges, and enhancing security, through diplomatic dialogue and comprehensive political solutions to resolve crises.

The First Deputy Chairman of Shura Council praised the speech delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs before the United Nations General Assembly in its 78th session.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs started his remarks by offering his sincere condolences to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister, Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force and to all BDF members, including officers, soldiers, families of the fallen servicemen, and to all Bahrainis over the death of the fallen servicemen who lost their lives in an act of aggression while performing their sacred patriotic duties within Operation Decisive Storm and the Operation Restoring Hope, carried out by the Arab Coalition. He noted that the attack occurred despite the cessation of military operations between the warring parties in Yemen.

He added that the leadership received condolences from numerous world leaders, heads of governments, and heads of regional and international organisations, who condemned this treacherous attack, and expressed their solidarity with the Kingdom of Bahrain, and their appreciation for its efforts and the prominent role it plays in protecting the security and stability of the region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the legislative branch and its important role in advancing the comprehensive development process under the wise leadership of His Majesty the King, and with the follow-up and support of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Prime Minister. He also underscored the role of the legislative branch in implementing the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain and developing relations and joint cooperation with countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs briefed representatives of the legislative branch on the Comprehensive Agreement for Security Integration and Prosperity between Bahrain and the United States, which was signed by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime as part of his official visit the United States, noting that this mirrors the depth of historic friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.

He also underscored the importance of this agreement to the friendship and close joint cooperation between the two sides in the fields of politics, security, defense and economy, and its role in achieving the common interests and protecting and consolidating regional security and peace.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also briefed members of the legislative branch on the Kingdom of Bahrain’s participation in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He said that His Majesty the King assigned him to participate in the UNGA, adding that this participation was positive, constructive and effective to enhance the position of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the international scene.

He said that the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Oil, Environment, Sustainable Development and Health was represented in the General Assembly by attending conferences, forums, ministerial meetings and bilateral meetings, adding that it was an opportunity to highlight the achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain, especially in the fields of sustainable development, economic growth and the environment, and building partnerships and strengthening ties with other countries.

He said that the bilateral meetings he held with a number of foreign ministers discussed developing friendship and cooperation, opening new horizons for development, and reviewing joint efforts to confront challenges and enhance cooperation to maintain international peace and security.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined that the speech of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which he delivered before the United Nations General Assembly, outlined the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance its comprehensive development process, its notable achievements in various fields, and its political and diplomatic endeavors to build bilateral cooperation and strengthen its strategic international partnerships in order to maintain global peace, security and stability and promote development and prosperity.

He added that the speech further affirmed the positions of the Kingdom of Bahrain towards contemporary challenges and issues and reflected the direction of the Kingdom to enhance international cooperation and support the efforts of the international community providing a safe, prosperous and sustainable environment for the world.

The Foreign Minister concluded the meeting by answering the inquiries of the legislative branch members, which reflected their interest in the government’s efforts to develop and strengthen the Kingdom’s relations with the world countries.

The meeting was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Director-General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Ambassador Dr. Yusuf Abdulkarim Bucheeri, Parliament Secretary General, Rashid Mohammed Bounajma, and the Secretary-General of the Shura Council, Kareema Mohammed Al-Abbasi, in addition to a number of official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
