Jeddah: The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) joins the OIC member states in commemorating the Islamic Day for Human Rights and Human Dignity.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the IPHRC stated that Islam is inherently a religion advocating peace, justice, compassion, and coexistence. It emphasizes the sanctity of human life, equality before the law, social solidarity, protection of the vulnerable, and respect for diversity. The Islamic perspective on human rights is based on a balanced framework of 'rights and responsibilities,' recognizing that individual rights cannot be separated from ethical conduct, accountability, justice, and the collective welfare of society. This approach aims to preserve human dignity while fostering peaceful and cohesive communities.

The commission also acknowledged the significant human rights challenges in various parts of the Muslim world. It highlighted the ongoing severe human rights violations by the Israeli occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories, affecting millions of innocent Palestinians, including women and children. Additionally, the humanitarian crises in several OIC member states, the plight of refugees and internally displaced persons, the protection of the rights of Muslim minorities, and increasing instances of religious intolerance and anti-Muslim sentiment underscore the urgent need for renewed international solidarity and action.

On this occasion, the commission urged OIC member states, national human rights institutions, educational institutions, civil society organizations, youth, and media professionals to mark the Islamic Day for Human Rights and Human Dignity through educational programs, public awareness campaigns, academic discussions, and community initiatives. These efforts should promote a culture of human rights, mutual respect, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence in line with Islamic teachings and universally recognized human rights principles.
