The Presidency of the Republic issued a clarification today, Thursday, regarding what was reported about the issuance of presidential decrees en masse to ratify death sentences in terrorism cases, stressing that it will not hesitate to perform its duties against terrorists.

A statement by the Presidency of the Republic stated: “Some suspicious pages belonging to some wanted persons by the judiciary and intelligence officers during the time of the former regime whose hands were stained with the blood of Iraqis, circulated news stating that presidential decrees were issued en masse to ratify death sentences issued against those convicted of terrorist crimes.”

The statement added: “Such false news promoted by the enemies of Iraq seeks to stir up chaos, confuse the cards and stir up the street in light of the exceptional circumstances that the region is going through,” indicating: “The Presidency of the Republic will not hesitate to perform its duties in ratifying death sentences against terrorists whose hands
were stained with the blood of innocent Iraqis, after the ruling has completed all legal procedures of cassation, retrial and presenting to the Special Pardon Committee.”

The statement stressed the President’s keenness on the constitution and completing the legal procedures against the convicts, and he is responsible for protecting the blood of innocent Iraqis and punishing their killers.

The statement called on those who have been sentenced to death or their relatives whose legal procedures have not been completed to submit their requests to the Presidency of the Republic in order to transfer them to the competent judicial authorities.

It pointed out that “what has been promoted on suspicious pages has nothing to do with the truth and is pure lies and slander,” warning against “these suspicious attempts led by some infiltrators whose interests have been harmed by the demise of the dictatorial regime and the defeat of the terrorist organization ISIS.”

The statement also called for “exerting accuracy in ci
rculating news on social media and other media outlets and verifying it before publishing it, as the enemies of Iraq will not hesitate to fabricate lies and create crises with the intention of harming Iraq and its people.”
