Red Sea Labs to Host Middle East Media Initiative to Support Arab Drama Writers

Jeddah: As part of the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Red Sea Labs will host the Middle East Media Initiative (MEMI) from December 4 to 9, offering emerging Arab television drama writers an opportunity to develop their works and refine their storytelling to create narratives that reflect their realities and resonate with audiences.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiative, launched by the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, is an innovative professional program designed to support Arab content creators and screenwriters by enhancing their ability to produce compelling dramas that entertain and raise social awareness.

The initiative requires that submitted projects be fictional and character-driven, with storylines rooted in the Arab world. Documentary or anthology projects are not eligible. Applicants may apply individually or as writing partners under the same conditions.

Applications are open until November 9. Eligible candidates must be of Arab origin, native Arabic speakers, proficient in English writing, and hold full rights to their proposed series. Interested applicants can apply through the official website: https://redseafilmfest.com.
