Riyadh:The Roads General Authority (RGA) has emphasized the necessity of coordinated efforts among relevant entities to ensure adherence to the Saudi Road Code. This includes monitoring the code's implementation, verifying compliance with its requirements, and addressing any identified issues. The goal is to standardize technical practices, improve the quality of road project implementation and maintenance nationwide, and enhance the safety and efficiency of the road network.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the RGA indicated that compliance assessments focus on several key areas, including traffic planning and studies, traffic diversions and safety requirements, as well as road markings and signage. Strengthening compliance involves integrating the code's requirements into contracts, raising awareness, providing training, and disseminating standards among contractors and project implementers. Additionally, specialized teams are being established to continuously monitor compliance and address any shortcomings.
The RGA explained that the Saudi Road Code serves as a unified technical reference for road sector development. It establishes best practices for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of roads, which contributes to infrastructure sustainability, asset preservation, and enhanced spending efficiency on road projects. The authority stressed that compliance by all stakeholders is critical to improving road user safety, strengthening network reliability, and enhancing service quality. Collaboration among government entities, the private sector, and road specialists also contributes to a more integrated and efficient transport system.
The code provides entities with the necessary information, guidelines, technical drawings, procedures, and checklists to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain all types of roads. It incorporates environmental requirements and safety standards to ensure adherence to quality, safety, security, economic efficiency, and sustainability criteria.
The Saudi Road Code supports the RGA's strategy to create a unified legislative and regulatory framework for the Kingdom's road sector by standardizing technical and operational requirements nationwide. This enables road-owning entities to systematically and sustainably improve performance through comprehensive standards that cover the entire road lifecycle, from design and construction to operation and maintenance.
The authority reaffirmed its dedication to establishing a unified and transparent legislative and regulatory framework that encourages policy coordination and compliance through flexible yet robust mechanisms. These efforts are aligned with its mandate to regulate the road sector by developing the necessary policies and legislation.
