Riyadh: The Roads General Authority (RGA) announced that it issued more than 5,000 permits to regulate activities on Saudi Arabia's road network during July as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and enhance operational efficiency.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the services aim to facilitate permit applications, improve safety standards, and enhance companies' experience by improving the quality of services provided, in line with the authority's role in regulating and overseeing the road sector.

The authority said it issued a total of 5,500 permits during July, including 5,250 permits for exceptional loads, 192 excavation permits, 28 excavation extension permits, and 83 clearance requests. It added that the figures reflect the effectiveness of its permit-issuance service for roads outside urban areas, available on its official website.

Through these efforts, the authority seeks to enhance safety and readiness across the road network and achieve the objectives of the road sector program by reducing road fatalities to fewer than five deaths per 100,000 people. It also aims to ensure the road network complies with road safety standards under the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) classification while maintaining an advanced level of road network services.
