Riyadh: Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Nigeria, Palestine, Qatar, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli Knesset's recent declaration supporting the imposition of "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank. This declaration, they argue, constitutes a violation of international law and breaches several United Nations Security Council resolutions, including Resolutions 242, 338, and 2334. These resolutions affirm the invalidity of any attempts to legitimize the occupation, such as settlement activities in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the involved parties maintain that Israel does not possess sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories. They stress that the Knesset's unilateral decision lacks legal authority and cannot change the legal status of the occupied areas, including East Jerusalem, which is considered an integral part of the Palestinian territories.
The condemnation further highlights concerns that these actions could exacerbate regional tensions, already strained by ongoing Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip and their humanitarian impacts. The countries urge the international community, especially the Security Council, to take decisive action against these Israeli policies, which they believe threaten the possibility of achieving a just and lasting peace, as well as the two-state solution.
The parties reiterated their dedication to the two-state solution, based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. They advocate for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
