Saudi Arabia Emphasizes Women’s Health Initiatives on Global Awareness Day

Riyadh: Observed annually on May 28, the International Day of Action for Women's Health seeks to raise awareness about women's health issues and promote efforts to enhance healthcare services and conditions for women around the world. The day highlights the importance of accessible, equitable, and quality healthcare, especially for women in marginalized and underserved communities. It was first established in 1987 by the Women's Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) during an international women's health meeting in Costa Rica, marking a global commitment to advancing women's health and reproductive rights.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom underscores its commitment to promoting women's health as a vital pillar of sustainable development through comprehensive health initiatives and progressive legislative programs. These efforts align with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which prioritizes strengthening the role of women across multiple sectors, including healthcare, by ensuring access to quality services, supporting their well-being, and fostering equal opportunities for advancement.

Effective programs to improve women's health include early detection initiatives such as mobile clinics for screening diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and breast cancer. Additionally, health awareness campaigns in schools, shopping malls, and hospital waiting areas focus on preventing anemia and iron deficiency, promoting a healthy and balanced diet, and raising awareness about the risks of smoking.
