Saudi Arabia Participates in 34th World Conference of Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has participated in the 34th World Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva, where the Kingdom's commitment to global humanitarian initiatives was underscored by its Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khathila. In his address, Ambassador bin Khathila highlighted Saudi Arabia's dedication to global solidarity in humanitarian values and practices, emphasizing its extensive efforts in alleviating the suffering of vulnerable communities worldwide. "Saudi Arabia's participation today stems from its belief in the importance of solidarity with the international community to promote humanitarian values," he stated. He reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment to respecting and enhancing the principles of international humanitarian and human rights law, as well as fostering global security, stability, and peace-particularly in the Middle East. Ambassador bin Khathila recognized the 75th anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Conventions, underscoring Saudi Arabia's ratification of these landmark documents as a testament to its support for protecting human dignity during conflicts. He stressed the Kingdom's condemnation of violence against civilians, humanitarian personnel, and relief workers, noting Saudi Arabia's stance against actions that violate international humanitarian law. He also highlighted the Kingdom's active partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), adding that through joint projects, humanitarian responses, and the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF), Saudi Arabia continues to address humanitarian crises and alleviate suffering, citing the Kingdom's launch of the 'Sahem' platform, which promoted community participation in humanitarian relief efforts. In his closing remarks, Ambassador bin Khathila urged the international community to avoid superficial crisis management and work toward lasting solutions to global challenges. He ca lled for a unified approach to upholding humanitarian principles and international law without bias, ensuring stability and prosperity.
