Jeddah: A food security session titled "Food Resilience: Strategies for Securing Grain and Achieving Production Efficiency in the Saudi Milling Sector," held today as part of the Saudi Industry Forum 2026 in Jeddah, discussed ways to enhance the sustainability of grain supplies and supply chain resilience. It also addressed improving milling sector efficiency to support Saudi Arabia's food security ecosystem and its ability to withstand geopolitical and climatic shifts.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the session highlighted the Kingdom's strategic grain storage system and the role of the National Grain Supply Company (SABIL), in coordination with milling companies, in ensuring supply continuity. It noted the target of maintaining a strategic wheat reserve sufficient for approximately six months, exceeding 2.5 million tons, alongside diversifying supply sources and leveraging both local production and Saudi agricultural investments abroad.

Participants emphasized that the system's readiness, combined with diverse import and transportation channels, helped maintain supply stability during global trade disruptions. They achieved this through proactive crisis management plans, continuous inventory monitoring, and improved coordination between relevant authorities and milling companies.

Participants also underscored the importance of continued integration between government entities and milling companies, improved digital inventory connectivity, diversified maritime routes, import gateways, and supply sources, and stronger cybersecurity readiness for automated facilities. These measures aim to reinforce supply chain resilience and the sustainability of food security in the Kingdom.
