Riyadh: The Saudi mathematics team is participating in the 66th edition of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO, 2025), hosted by Sunshine Coast region, Australia, from July 10 to 20. Around 600 students from various countries are taking part in the event.
According to Saudi Press Agency, IMO is among the most prestigious global competitions for high school students. It has been held annually since its first edition in Romania in 1959, when it drew participation from seven countries. Today, over 120 countries from all continents take part in the competition.
Saudi Arabia has been participating in this international event since 2004 and, throughout its 20 previous participations, has earned 12 silver medals, 45 bronze medals, and 19 certificates of appreciation.
Representing the Kingdom this year is a national team of six students who were prepared through hundreds of hours of training under the supervision of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education.
Top global universities actively seek to recruit students who compete in the Olympiad, as they are recognized for their exceptional abilities in logical reasoning, understanding probability theory and statistics, and handling complex data for accurate future insights.
