Vice President and Secretary-General of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed has signed an agreement for the Olympic Committee to join the UN “Sports for Climate Action” initiative.

Prince Fahd, during the activities of the second day of the Saudi Green Initiative Forum, held on the sidelines of the Climate Summit “COP27” in Sharm El-Sheikh, on behalf of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, said “I am pleased to announce today that the Olympic Committee has joined the UN “Sports for Climate Action” initiative”.

He expressed his appreciation for the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to establish a green future for the Kingdom under the leadership of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, adding that the climate crisis calls on everyone to play a major role in accelerating the pace of change to a sustainable society and to adopting sustainability at its core.

He pointed out that the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee is expanding the scope of climate action in the Kingdom, as it has been involved in the Saudi sports movement to create awareness among sports communities of the danger of climate change.

Prince Fahd said, “We still have more to do, and we aim to expand the scope of sports’ involvement in all sports organizations, federations, and committees in the Kingdom to play an effective role in achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 and aligning their plans with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.”
