Successful Separation of Syrian Conjoined Twins ‘Celine and Eileen’ after Complex 8-Hour Surgery

Riyadh: A specialized medical and surgical team from the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program successfully completed a complex surgery today to separate the Syrian conjoined twins, Celine and Eileen, who are one year and five months old. The operation lasted eight continuous hours and was performed at King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital (KASCH) of King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, under the Ministry of National Guard. According to Saudi Press Agency, Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and head of the medical team Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah said that the operation was carried out by a comprehensive team of 24 consultants and specialists, along with nursing and technical staff in fields such as anesthesiology, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and other supporting specialties, to ensure the highest standards of precision and safety throughout all stages of the surgery. Al Rabeeah noted that this operation is the fourth separation of conjoined twins from S yria and the 66th performed under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, which spans more than 35 years, covering 27 countries and having reviewed 150 cases from around the world. He stressed that this achievement reflects the Kingdom's leading role in this rare medical specialty, with direct support from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Al Rabeeah, on behalf of the medical and surgical team, expressed deep gratitude to the wise leadership for their unwavering support of the program. He also thanked the team members for their dedication and perseverance, which contributed significantly to this medical accomplishment that stands as a source of national pride. He reiterated that this humanitarian and medical achievement is the result of national teamwork, a testament to the competence of Saudi medical professionals, and a reflection of the Kingdom's noble mission to serve hum anity and its global leadership in this field. Chargé d'Affaires at the Syrian Embassy in Riyadh Hussein Abdulaziz extended his thanks to the Saudi government, KSrelief, and the medical team, noting that this achievement reflects the advanced level of the Saudi medical sector and demonstrates the strength of the brotherly relations between the Kingdom and Syria.
