Head of the Suez Canal Authority, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, announced the success of the operation to recover the tugboat “Fahad” and clear the canal’s navigational passage.
Lieutenant General Rabie stated in a statement that the process of lifting and removing the tug “Fahad” required taking several procedures, starting from surveying the area of the collision accident to determine the location of the sunken locomotive, then securing the site of the locomotive with warning and guiding buoys to enable the passing ships to resume their crossing safely, after which the work of lifting the sunken tug began after making the necessary salvage calculations.
The Head of the Authority pointed out that the site of the recovery of the sunken locomotive “Fahad” was secured navigationally and environmentally against potential oil spill accidents.
The Head of the Authority confirmed that the navigation movement in the canal operates regularly from both directions, and was not affected by the rescue work, as the canal witnessed, over the course of two days, Monday and Tuesday, the crossing of 146 ships from both directions, with a total net tonnage of 8.4 million tons.
