Surgical Robot Performs Heart Valve Replacement in Mecca

Mecca: The cardiac surgery team at King Abdullah Medical City in the Holy Capital, part of the Makkah Health Cluster, successfully performed a delicate heart operation on a female patient suffering from severe mitral valve regurgitation. This condition had led to coordination problems and an inability to walk.

According to Saudi Press Agency, after a series of medical assessments and diagnostic tests, the decision was made to proceed with an urgent surgical intervention utilizing the advanced Da Vinci Surgical System. This groundbreaking robotic surgical technology was employed in collaboration with a team of surgeons from the Prince Sultan Cardiac Center in Riyadh. The operation involved a complete replacement of the mitral valve, which helped restore a regular heartbeat and alleviate the patient's symptoms.

The Makkah Health Cluster reported that the operation was a success. The patient has been moved to the cardiac surgery intensive care unit and is in stable condition. Her ongoing medical care plan is being managed by a specialized multidisciplinary team.

The health cluster also highlighted that this operation is part of broader efforts by the medical city to advance cardiac surgeries.
