Madinah: Neighborhoods across Madinah have achieved significant progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under Saudi Vision 2030 targets, according to 2024 urban indicators covering social, economic, housing, transport, and living standards.
According to Saudi Press Agency, a report issued by Al Madinah Region Development Authority showed that 66 neighborhoods within Madinah recorded strong results in the housing sector, contributing to efforts to make Madinah inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. More than one-third of neighborhoods scored above 95% on the adequate housing index.
The report further revealed that 59 neighborhoods achieved positive outcomes at the "effective urban planning" level, reflecting an increase in per capita green space. It also highlighted that 95% of Madinah's buildings are constructed with modern and durable systems.
In terms of "sustainable urban transport," 54 neighborhoods performed well, with 96.2% of residents expressing satisfaction with road quality and traffic conditions. In 21 neighborhoods, satisfaction reached 100%.
The report noted significant progress in access to reliable modern energy by 2030, with the general electricity grid covering 99.5% of Madinah, including full coverage in 53 neighborhoods. Telecommunications services achieved 100% coverage in 50 neighborhoods.
Water and sanitation services are also nearing full coverage, with public water networks serving 100% of residents in 45 neighborhoods, while 22 neighborhoods achieved full wastewater coverage.
Education and healthcare services were highlighted as well, with residents in 37 neighborhoods reporting 100% satisfaction with educational services. Schools across all levels were available in 52 neighborhoods, while hospitals covered 48 neighborhoods with full accessibility, aligning with the SDG target of universal health coverage.
The report added that residents of 35 neighborhoods participated in cultural and sports activities at high levels, while most other neighborhoods showed moderate participation, and five neighborhoods recorded the lowest levels of engagement in such activities.
