Makkah: The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, in cooperation with the National Center for Waste Management, has launched the "Sustainable Ihram" initiative for the Hajj season 1446 AH.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability within the Grand Mosque during the Hajj season by reducing pollution and raising awareness about the importance of recycling pilgrims' Ihram garments after completing the rituals. It involves collecting and sorting surplus ihrams, carpets, and bags as part of managing pilgrim textile waste, which will be recycled and redistributed.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to minimize waste generation and foster sustainability and environmental conservation. Specialized teams implement these operations using innovative methods that contribute to waste reduction and the transformation of materials into sustainable products.
