Today’s newspapers talk about the possibility of transferring part of Iraqi oil outside the “circle of conflict” and continue to follow up on the pollution file weighing on Baghdad

Today, Thursday, October 17, newspapers published in Baghdad talked about the possibility of transferring part of Iraqi oil outside the “circle of conflict” in the region.. and continued to follow up on the pollution file looming over Baghdad.

Al-Zawraa newspaper, published by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, focused on the risks surrounding Iraqi oil production and export as a result of tensions and the specter of war looming over the region.

The newspaper talked about the possibility of transferring part of Iraqi oil outside the circle of conflict in the region, according to the opinion of economic expert Safwan Qusay, who suggested that Iraq transfer part of its surplus production to warehouses outside the conflict, whether in China or the European Union as a precaution.

Qusay said in an interview with Al-Zawraa: “The Israeli threat against some oil facilities contributed to increasing oil prices by no less than 9% of previous prices, but this fear was quickly addressed by redirecting the energy market
towards stability, considering that it is a military conflict and does not extend to the energy sector,” noting that the increase and growth of demand in China and the United States of America could help stabilize these prices between 70 and 80 dollars during this stage.

He added: “Iraq is supposed to think about removing the fears of the Strait of Hormuz and other threats, and is thinking about investing in the process of transferring part of its surplus oil production to warehouses outside the circle of conflict, whether in China or in the European Union, so that this oil remains the property of Iraq and is stored in global markets in order to maintain export rates to these markets away from the circle of conflict, and this is in agreement with those countries to avoid the risks of fluctuating oil prices on Iraq’s revenues,” noting: “This is supposed to be in agreement with OPEC and its partners Russia.”

The expert pointed out that: “The Israeli strike in response to the Iranian bombing is still unclear,
but it seems that it will be a military response until the US elections, and consumption rates in the European Union and the United States of America are growing after the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates on 9/17,” indicating: “This gives reassurance that prices will not fall below $70.”

As for the newspaper / Al-Sabah /, which is issued by the Iraqi Media Network, it continued to follow up on the pollution file that is looming over the capital, Baghdad, and the government campaign to remove it.

The newspaper said in this regard: “The smell of sulfur that has filled the air of the capital every night is an alarm bell warning us that pollution has reached levels that require us to work diligently and urgently to reduce it. During the past few days, maps taken by satellites showed that a very high concentration of carbon dioxide is looming over Baghdad’s sky.”

It added: “Yesterday, more than (400) brick factories were closed because they do not meet environmental safety requirements, but the danger will
not disappear completely if the factories – even the licensed ones – are not far from residential neighborhoods, and if places for them are not searched for outside the city, not in its center,” noting: “The major campaign to remove and combat pollution that was launched yesterday is a national duty, because we are talking about the lives of millions of Iraqis and the lives of their children after them.”

Regarding this campaign, Al-Sabah said: “In implementation of the directives of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and based on the decisions of the Council of Ministers the day before yesterday, Tuesday, a major government campaign was launched yesterday, Wednesday, with the participation of several ministries to combat environmental pollution.” It continued: “The Ministry of Interior has launched a campaign of inspections of industrial activities affiliated with the public and private sectors to monitor those in violation.
