Strait of hormuz: Two oil tankers have caught fire after hitting sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement. The IRGC indicated that the tankers were attempting "at the urging of the US military to transit via an illegal route" in the strait before "striking mines and exploding." The vessels were forced to disembark their crews following the incident, though this information has not been independently verified.

According to Deutsche Welle, Saudi Arabia's national shipping company, Bahri, reported that two sailors were killed in an attack on one of its vessels in the strait on Monday. Bahri stated that its oil tanker Sidr was "involved in a security incident while transiting the Strait of Hormuz" on the evening of August 31. The attack resulted in the death of two Filipino crew members.

The Strait of Hormuz was a key waterway for the transport of oil and gas before the Middle East war broke out in February. Iranian attacks on ships have largely brought traffic there to a halt, although some tankers have moved through the strait in recent weeks.
