Riyadh: The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant and Animal Pests, known as Weqaa, marked World Mosquito Day by reiterating its dedication to the prevention and control of disease vectors to protect both public and animal health.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Weqaa is actively implementing awareness programs and educational initiatives aimed at controlling disease vectors such as mosquitoes, flies, ticks, and fleas. These arthropods are known to transmit various pathogens, including parasites, viruses, and bacteria, and are major contributors to the spread of epidemic animal diseases.
The center has been focusing on raising community awareness regarding the reduction of vector spread and has been highlighting various efforts made to mitigate these risks. Weqaa's initiatives are supported by executive and operational plans that incorporate modern technologies. These include the use of smart traps to monitor insect density and analyze relevant data, as well as deploying drones to apply safe pesticides with precision and efficiency, especially in areas that are difficult to access.
These comprehensive efforts are instrumental in enhancing health security and mitigating risks associated with disease vectors, reflecting the Kingdom's steadfast commitment to achieving improved health outcomes for all its citizens.
