Dhahran: The 2025 Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) is underway in Dhahran, with 15 teams from the scientific and organizing committees managing the daily proceedings.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the event, themed “Together, We Generate the Energy of the Future,” commenced on Sunday and will continue until May 12. The Olympiad is a collaborative effort by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). It has drawn 240 students from 30 countries, along with 110 team leaders and physics specialists.
Specialized committees have conducted four interactive workshops and five daily scientific meetings for team leaders, with each session lasting over ten hours. These sessions involved discussions on scientific questions, as well as the finalization of translations and corrections approved by the scientific committee. To ensure linguistic fairness, the committee prepared 30 copies of materials translated into 16 languages for participants from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
As the event enters its third day, the scientific committee is finalizing the translation of the theoretical exam, which comprises the main questions with sub-parts. Students will have five hours to complete this exam, following the practical exam held on the previous day.
The scientific committee is organized into two teams: a 10-member group responsible for the practical test and a 30-member team handling the theoretical test. The committee includes international experts, KFUPM specialists, and four Saudi doctoral students who are former APhO competitors.
