OANA’s Executive Council meets in Tehran with Lebanon’s participation

The Executive Committee of the Organization of Asia and Pacific News Agencies (OANA) opened in Tehran on Monday, the 43rd meeting of its Executive Council, under the auspices of Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salihi, with the participation of the directors of OANA’s member agencies: Lebanon, Russia, Azerbaijan, China, Turkey, Mongolia, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Iran; yet in the absence of Bahrain.
The opening event was also attended by the Ambassadors of the partaking states, in addition to the directors and representatives of the news agencies of Qatar, Iraq, Syria and Oman, as well as Mehr News Agency, as guests of honor.
It is to note that Lebanon was represented by Director of the National News Agency, Laure Sleiman.
In his word, Minister Salihi highlighted “the necessity to establish balance versus the hegemony of the western media means,” proposing the formation of news coalitions similar to OANA.
“News western media means broadcast about the Middle East are different from the facts in this region,” he said.
“Western media means disseminate unfounded news on Iran’s situation amid the sanctions imposed on it, and they are twisting facts,” he added.
He then called for “the formation of news coalitions to provide chances of balance versus the western media means.”
Work sessions followed the opening conference.
On the sidelines of the conference, Directors of NNA and Iran’s news agency signed a cooperation agreement on exchanging news and images.
It is to note that South Korea will host OANA’s General Assembly in November 2019.
