35th International Conference of Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Highlights Role of Women in Raising Cultural and Religious Awareness

The 35th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs affirmed that women are the cornerstone of a successful life and homeland stability, and that Islam has granted them a pivotal role and support.

Such affirmations were made in the opening session of the conference, which takes place in Cairo under the title ‘Role of Women in Building Awareness’. The event takes place under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Egyptian Minister of Awqaf Osama Al-Azhari said in the opening speech that one of the important topics the conference tackles is the role of women in raising cultural and religious awareness, promoting coexistence, making peace, serving society, building the family, and raising children. Also discussed was the Egyptian experience in empowering women.

Al-Azhari also said that Palestinian women have gained prominence worldwide for their patience, endurance, steadfastness, and their ability to raise successive generations that are aware about the cause of
the Palestinians under ongoing occupation.

Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Undersecretary Mohammad Al-Duwaini reiterated that the conference tackles the important role women play in building families and serving society.

Palestinian Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs Mohammad Najm highlighted the role of Palestinian women in spreading religious awareness, and stressed the need to qualify female scholars to teach the science of fatwa.

Grand Mufti of Egypt Dr. Nazir Ayyad said that “Islam views women as responsible and guardians, and has assigned them a major role through dawah, advice, guidance and counseling”, adding that the conference is proof of the degree of belief in women, and of the keenness of institutions to empower them for their role in building civilization and social construction.

He pointed out that Shariah supports liberating women and restoring their dignity, and pointing to the keenness of religious institutions to educate female preachers, acknowledging their rational religious awarenes

Ayyad called on women preachers to be serious and diligent when involved in religious and national affairs, work to raise cultural and religious awareness, and endeavor to disseminate the religious discourse.
