Heritage Commission Adds 202 New Archaeological Sites to National Register

Riyadh: The Heritage Commission announced today that it has registered and documented 202 new archaeological sites in the National Register of Antiquities.

This step brings the total number of registered sites to 9,119, highlighting the rich history of the Kingdom.

The newly discovered archaeological sites include 102 sites in the Riyadh region, 20 in the Asir region, and 80 in the Hail region. The archaeological discoveries consist of wells, pillars, stone circles, building foundations, stone tools such as weapons and axes, inscriptions, graves, and cemeteries dating back to the early Islamic era.

The commission stressed that its efforts to register architectural sites are ongoing and cover all regions of the Kingdom. It urged citizens and residents to report urban heritage sites and buildings for registration through the urban heritage service reporting platform, the commission’s official account on X Platform, and the branches of the commission across the Kingdom.
