Indonesian Hajj Pilgrim Emerges from Coma After Life-Saving Surgery at King Abdulaziz Hospital

General

Makkah, A neurosurgery team at King Abdulaziz Hospital in Makkah successfully performed a life-saving surgery on an elderly Indonesian Hajj pilgrim who had been battling a serious brain condition.

The female pilgrim, in her seventies, emerged from a coma after experiencing acute hydrocephalus, commonly referred to as water on the brain.

Upon her arrival at the emergency department, thorough examinations and diagnostic x-rays revealed the presence of a tumor exerting pressure on her brainstem.

Given the critical nature of her condition and the potential for complications, doctors acted promptly to save her life through a meticulous surgical procedure.

A drainage system, known as a shunt, was delicately inserted to alleviate the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in her brain. This intervention successfully relieved the pressure and reversed the deterioration of her condition.

Following the surgery, she was carefully monitored in the intensive care unit. Gradually, she regained partial and then complete c
onsciousness.

However, their commitment to her well-being did not waver, as they continue to provide her with the necessary medical care in accordance with established protocols.

Her progress is closely monitored, and she receives ongoing therapeutic care to support her full recovery.
