Over 87,000 Tons of Waste in Makkah and Holy Sites

General

Makkah: During this year’s Hajj season, 1445 AH, nearly 90,000 tons of waste were removed from Makkah and the holy sites. As of yesterday, the holy sites accounted for around 7,438 tons, and Makkah for 80,361 tons.

The Makkah Municipality deployed field teams, labor, and equipment in the holy sites area. They introduced easy-to-use equipment, such as small carts for cleaners, designed to be easily towed and manoeuvred in crowded places with limited space, making reaching areas inaccessible to larger vehicles easier. Additionally, 1,135 Garbage Compactor Stations and 113 stores were used to store waste temporarily.

To facilitate waste collection, 28 service centers were set up in the holy sites, including three in Arafat, three in Muzdalifah, and 22 in Mina. These centers are geographically distributed to cover the entire area and are responsible for public cleanliness and environmental sanitation.
