Cairo, The Arab Parliament’s Palestine Committee held a meeting yesterday at the headquarters of the Secretariat General of the parliament in Cairo, chaired by the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi, to discuss the latest developments in Palestine in light of the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the continued violations in the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem.

In his opening statement, Al-Asoumi affirmed the Arab Parliament’s support for the Palestinian people and their cause to attain their legitimate rights and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He noted Arab and international efforts to immediately halt the Israeli aggression against Gaza, implement a ceasefire, resolve the conflict based on international terms of reference, and secure full membership of the United Nations for Palestine.

Al-Asoumi condemned the Israeli occupation’s decisions to legitimize settlement outposts in the West Bank, which aim to change the historical and legal status quo
in the occupied Palestinian territories. He also condemned the occupation’s attempt to designate UNRWA as a “terrorist organization” and criminalize its activities, stressing the vital and important role played by the agency in providing aid and relief to nearly 6.4 million Palestinian refugees and calling for protection for relief organizations and their staff.
