OIC Secretary-General Highlights Role of Youth in Achieving SDGs on International Youth Day

Jeddah: Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha extended his congratulations to young people around the world, particularly those in OIC member states, in recognition of International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Taha emphasized the importance of youth capital and its potential when nurtured in a supportive environment. He highlighted that with proper training and empowerment through knowledge and skills, youth can significantly contribute to the development of their communities and countries at various levels.

Taha noted that International Youth Day presents an opportunity to assess the OIC's progress in implementing its 2025 Programme of Action, Youth Strategy, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He reiterated the organization's commitment to these initiatives.

In his address, Taha extended his congratulations to youth worldwide while expressing concern for those residing in conflict zones. He stressed the need for focused efforts to improve their well-being.

This year's International Youth Day theme, "Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond," highlights the critical role youth play in achieving the SDGs. Taha mentioned the theme as a reminder of the youth's contributions to sustainable development.
