Kigali: The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), represented by Director General of Africa Operations Mohammed Al-Shammari, has taken part in the inauguration of three major road development projects in the Republic of Rwanda. The SFD contributed to these projects through development loans amounting to $42 million. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Rwandan Minister of Infrastructure, Dr. Jimmy Gasore, alongside other officials.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the inaugurated projects include the Nyagatare-Base-Rukomo Road, valued at $15 million, the Huye-Kitabi Road at $14 million, and the Rubengera-Gisiza Road at $13 million. The completion of these roads is expected to facilitate improved access to essential services and public amenities. Additionally, the projects aim to enhance road safety, boost transport and communications infrastructure, and strengthen trade and economic exchanges in the region.
Since 1976, the SFD has extended 13 development loans to Rwanda, funding 12 development projects and programs with a total value exceeding $160 million. These initiatives have been pivotal in supporting the growth of vital sectors and aiding Rwanda in its pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
