According to Saudi Press Agency, Secretary of the Higher Committee and CEO of the Buraidah International Dates Carnival Dr. Khaled Al-Naqidan said Qassim Region has about 11 million palm trees producing more than 580,000 tons of dates annually, making it one of Saudi Arabia's largest date-producing regions and contributing to food security. He said this distinction is attributed to direct support from the Qassim Region Emirate, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and relevant agricultural bodies, alongside the region's fertile land, adequate water resources, and id eal agricultural environment, which contribute to the flourishing of palm cultivation and improved production quality. Al-Naqidan noted that farmers' commitment to their farms and adoption of modern scientific palm care programs have increased production efficiency and improved date quality, making Qassim a national model for palm cultivation and date production. He added that the carnival markets more than 85% of Sukkari date production, one of the most sought-after varieties locally and internationally, due to its high quality, distinctive taste, and ease of storage and transportation. He emphasized that the future of the dates sector is closely linked to expanding the use of modern agricultural technologies, mechanization, and advanced irrigation systems that conserve water while maintaining production quality and quantity.
