Saudi Finance Minister Advocates for Stronger AIIB Engagement at Annual Meeting

Doha:Saudi Arabia's Minister of Finance, Mohammed Aljadaan, recently participated in the 11th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), held on September 28-29, 2026. The meeting took place under the theme "Tomorrow's Infrastructure Impact and Innovation."

According to Saudi Press Agency, Minister Aljadaan highlighted AIIB's established foundation in connectivity, regional cooperation, and private-sector participation. He noted that these achievements demonstrate the bank's growing capacity to meet its members' infrastructure needs.

During his address, Aljadaan emphasized that AIIB's progress should be assessed not only by financial metrics but also by the development impact, advocating for better infrastructure services, stronger institutions, and greater economic resilience. He stressed the importance of increased private-sector involvement.

Aljadaan also called for enhanced engagement with member countries, suggesting that early dialogues would help AIIB understand each nation's specific circumstances and infrastructure priorities. He underscored the value of multi-year programs that align with national strategies.

Concluding his remarks, Aljadaan urged the AIIB to leverage partnerships more effectively by cooperating with other development banks and international organizations. This approach, he argued, would facilitate the exchange of expertise, prevent duplication, and mobilize additional resources. He emphasized that AIIB's strategy should remain country-driven, considering the varying institutional capacities and fiscal conditions of its members.

Saudi Arabia, a founding member of the AIIB, has been involved with the institution since its establishment in Beijing in 2016 as a multilateral development finance entity.
