The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Participates In A Joint Meeting Of Two Committees On Relationship With Iraq And Arabian Peninsula In The European Parliament

Baghdad, The Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nizar Al-Khairallah, participated in a joint meeting of the two committees on the relationship with Iraq and the Arabian Peninsula in the European Parliament, which was held through video conferencing to discuss the relations between Iraq and the Gulf Cooperation Council and their future prospects.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Senior Undersecretary gave a presentation on the development of relations between Iraq and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, stressing the depth of social, clan and cultural relations between the two sides, noting that a remarkable development had been achieved in the political and economic relations between the two sides through the formation of the Strategic Dialogue Committee and by following up the implementation of the provisions of the memoranda Understanding signed between the two sides.

He affirmed that Iraq uses dialogue, political consultations, and peaceful methods to resolve all disputes that may arise with neighboring countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He praised Kuwait’s hosting of the Iraq Reconstruction Conference, and touched on the steps Iraq has taken recently to open up to Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Gulf states.

For their part, the ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries praised the new approach to Iraqi foreign policy and the positive and pivotal role Iraq plays in easing tensions in the region and hosting several rounds of Saudi-Iranian dialogue. They stressed that Iraq was and will remain an important country in the region, and that its stability means the region’s political stability, economically, and safely stability.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the chairpersons of the Iraq and the Arabian Peninsula Committee and the participating representatives affirmed that the European Union will continue its security cooperation with Iraq to combat terrorism and uproot its roots, and that the European Union is continuing to support the political process and increase its investments and economic aid to Iraq.
